October 13, 2006Brandon Flowers' Beef of the Week: Green freakin Day! (Srsly?)The Killers frontman thinks the punk rockers could learn a thing or two about patriotism from his band. Brandon Flowers Now over his tiff with emo bands Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco, Brandon Flowers is taking aim at Green Day over what he feels was an anti-American action. The Killers frontman is mad as hell that Green Day filmed their DVD, Bullet in a Bible, in England. "You have Green Day and 'American Idiot.' Where do they film their DVD? In England," Flowers told U.K.'s The Word. "A bunch of kids screaming 'I don't want to be an American idiot' -- I saw it as a very negative thing towards Americans...[T]hose kids aren't taking it the same way that he meant it. And [Billie Joe Armstrong] knew it." While Flowers said he's sure that Green Day meant the sentiment "in the same way that Bruce Springsteen meant 'Born in the U.S.A.,'" he's still pretty certain the Killers' new album, Sam's Town, is much more patriotic. "People need to see that, really, there are the nicest people in the world here!" Flowers said. "I don't know if our album makes you realize that. But I hope it's from a more positive place." Source

September 15, 2006Fred Flare interview with Pete Wentz
Ladies, let's not mince words here: Pete Wentz, the ever-spazzy bass player of Fall Out Boy, is a total go-getter. A maker of music! An actor! A fashion designer! A friend of Ashlee Simpson! In addition to being a key member of one of this year’s biggest rock bands, he's cute as the dickens, quick of the wit and has a wildly ah-mazing sense of style. We loved that hooded cape with pet monkey look during his dramatic red carpet walk at the VMA's! We sent this multi-tasking genius five quick questions from fred.
You've got a sweet sense of personal style, rivaled only by Kanye. What do you think the best and worst fashions for the '06 have been? Ha ha, my fashion sense is literally whichever shirt has the least smelly armpits, not a joke. I felt like '06 was all about clashing and controversial colors for Pete Wentz. Definitely the best fashions were finding old Hypercolor shirts and trying to get ‘em to work still. Also those one-piece PJ's with the feet intact pretty much blow my mind. The worst fashions are still just cargo pants especially when combined with Tevas with socks underneath. Where do you get yr shop on? I get my shop on at the merch table of whatever bands we’re on tour with. Sometimes I like going through my closet for clothes from when I was like 11. It’s a good thing that pastels don’t wash me out and that I didn’t grow too much since then. Our trusty internet gossip blogs say that you power-chill with Ashlee Simpson. Ha ha ha. Power-chill. You guys should write a book of all of the terms you invent. Ash is cute and nice and everything else I don’t usually associate with myself. On “One Tree Hill” you got to kiss both Hilary Burton and Sophia Bush… Who was the better kisser? And who would win in a cat fight? Kissing on TV is weird. It’s like "Get into it... film-film-film…" and then you’re like, "Wait, its over?" Besides I was too nervous about my breath and my kissing style to worry about enjoying it. I’m not sure who would win in a catfight. Chad is a hottie with a body, though. Will we be seeing more of you in Season 4? FINGERS CROSSED! I think I may be going right to Broadway after I graduate from Julliard soon… Besides, with my modeling career and euro-jet fashion line, I am kinda booked up. Ha ha! Hopefully, this little hobby of a band I have will take off… You can read the original HERE.

September 12, 2006MTV article on Clandestine Fashion Show, Ashlee Simpson rumors...
Fashion Week in New York is usually a parade of reedy models, high cheekbones and improbably priced haute couture, so it seemed like an odd place for Pete Wentz to hold the big coming-out party for his Clandestine Industries fashion line.
Yet on Saturday night, there he was, in the belly of the beast (or, more specifically, NYC's hip bar/ former bank Capitale), smiling and holding court while an army of good-looking kids walked the runway in hoodies and tattered dresses that he designed. And naturally, he felt a bit out of place. "This is our first show anywhere, which is exciting. I have very low expectations for it all," the bassist laughed. "Basically, this is sort of like 'Fall Out Boy takes on Fashion Week.' " Humility aside, the Clandestine show was clearly a big deal. A big-time roster of celebrity gawkers turned out to scope his wares, including Paris Hilton, Russell Simmons, Ryan Cabrera and Lauren "LC" Conrad of "The Hills" and "Laguna Beach." Cobra Starship mastermind Gabe Saporta walked the runway in a wife beater and black hoodie. All-American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter partied at the bar. And Wentz tried his best to maintain a sort of 'Aw, shucks' mentality about the whole thing, even when he was brought out on the runway and given a standing ovation. "It's pretty crazy, because honestly, I wasn't designing these clothes for celebrities at all," Wentz said. "To me, it's stuff you feel comfortable in, so you feel safe in your own skin. That's the most important thing. If you're 300 pounds or 4 feet tall, you can wear these clothes. You don't have to be perfect. You can embrace your flaws." Of course, that doesn't mean Wentz doesn't have grand aspirations for Clandestine. In fact, he's already lining up a list of potential clients. "A lot of people like Sway and Kanye have told me they want [a Clandestine hoodie], and I'd like to reach out to an audience that you wouldn't normally see at a Fall Out Boy show," he said. "I would love to see Jay-Z in it, and I would love to design for Keira Knightley, but I think those are both vast pipe dreams." And given that Pete Wentz was involved, the Clandestine show also doubled as an impromptu news conference for Fall Out Boy's new album, which the band is recording in Los Angeles and — according to what the band told MTV News two weeks ago — is already "halfway done" (see "Fall Out Boy Say Next LP May Fix Global Warming, Feature Jay-Z"). "All the guitar, drum and bass parts have been laid down, and now we're working on vocals," he said. "We've done all 14 songs we were supposed to do with [From Under the Cork Tree producer] Neal [Avron], and then in October, we're going to do two songs with Babyface [see 'Fall Out Boy Want Babyface To Produce Their Next Album']. If you consider our last album 'Empire Strikes Back,' then this record would be 'Return of the Jedi.' We played arenas on our last tour, and now we're writing a record to keep playing them in the future." And before he jetted off into the night (to hit up innumerable Fashion Week parties, which crop up in the city like wild mushrooms), Wentz had one more matter to attend to: setting the record straight about his much-rumored (and blogged-about) relationship with Ashlee Simpson. "Well, party press is pretty crazy," Wentz said. "Whether you go out or you don't go out, people just start assuming things about you. As far as Ashlee goes, I'm single and she's single, and I like hanging out with her. But we are definitely not dating. We're friends. She's going to England, and I'm working on an album." Source

September 6, 2006Wentz tabloid biz
It has been a source of speculation for months and months over who was to blame for the nude photos of Pete Wentz that popped up on the internet. Some said it was a random internet-saavy fan, some say it was Pete himself but most fingers pointed at Pete’s estranged friend, Chris Gutierrez. It seemed only logical to the accusers that Chris would use the photos to get back at Pete for trying to steal his girlfriend. Chris has always denied this but also said that he would have no problem admitting it if he were the responsible party.
Well, now you have the answer my friends, straight from the New York Times. "VMA Viewers Choice winners Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley of Fall Out Boy were so psyched about their award, they were hanging from pipes in the basement of The Plumm afterward. Turns out the pipe wasn’t so strong: It cracked and spewed water all over the VIP area. Wentz was unfazed; he continued his rant about how his ex-girlfriend had recently posted nude pictures of him all over the Internet." Source -------------------------------------------------------- Ashlee confirms break up with boyfriend Braxton Olita "Ashlee Simpson, 21, turned heads on September 2 at the NYC bar Don Hill’s, as she snuggled and kissed a cute guy in the hot spot’s VIP section. One big problem: He wasn’t Simpson’s guitarist and boyfriend of nearly a year, Braxton Olita; it was Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, 27. Indeed, Simpson’s rep tells Us Weekly that Simpson and Braxton “broke up about a week ago. They have decided to take a break.” A source close to Simpson tells Us, “Ashlee has been telling everyone that she’s over Braxton,” and adds that Wentz recently dumped girlfriend Michelle Trachtenberg in order to be with Simpson. For his part, dad Joe may be relieved: A source says when Simpson told him she wanted to move in with Olita earlier this year, “he thought it was totally wrong, immoral and a bad decision. It caused a major rift between her and Joe.” Ashlee had clearly moved on from her past love at Don Hills’ hipster dance party MisShapes that night where, according to Radar online, she proceeded to straddle the Fall Out Boy bassist, (Jessica was dateless). However, when the party got going, the going got vomitous for the rowdier Simpson sister. At one point, Ashlee had to excuse herself to retch, and management kindly blocked off the bathroom for her." September 5, 2006Funny Gym Class interview (By Shallon Lester for FHM)
Original article HERE
How did Gym Class Heroes form? Matt McGinley (drums): I met Travis in high school gym class. One of the first weekends of school, my band played at a party. We didn’t have a singer at the time, so we just played instrumentals and during one of the songs Travis jumped up and starting rapping over the music. We acquired the name Gym Class Heroes very soon after that and we’ve been using it since. Travis McCoy (vocals): In the beginning, we were just making songs to make our friends laugh. It’s funny, for the first recording we actually had to get permission from our parents to leave school for the day and travel to Buffalo to record a demo. You guys have been at this awhile, but what kind of day jobs have you held in the past? Travis: I did all kinds of crazy shit. I was a sandwich artist at Subway. I was in the delicatessen field. Matt: I worked at a deli too. We were both cold cut professionals. Your song “New Friend Request” is the first song to acknowledge online stalking. What’s your advice for guys trying to get laid on MySpace? Travis: I’ve kind of hung up my pimp coat, so to speak. I’m 25 now but my prime pimping days were when I was, like, 12. I don’t really meet girls on MySpace the way I used to. But it’s really easy to do, Disashi [Lumumba-Kasongo, guitarist for Gym Class Heroes] and I used to call it “fishing.” We would find random girls on MySpace and send them really stupid messages—and if you do it to about 10 girls, usually three or four will reply back. It’s kind of fun. You have a huge online following—how connected are you to the fans? Travis: On our personal Web page we try to respond to as many e-mails as possible. A lot of people think bands on MySpace have a team managing their page, but that’s not the case for us. Matt: It’s super important to write fans, because kids definitely remember that. When I was a kid I was really into this band, Radish, and I wrote the drummer. He actually wrote back and I’ll always remember that. So, if we can dish out a little bit of that, it’s awesome. What was the greatest thing you saw on the Warped Tour? Travis: There’s this guy in Denver named Maris the Great. He’s a gay zombie. He’s never out of costume and he’s the creepiest dude ever. The first time I met him he’s like, “Silly mortal, I would love to perform fellatio on you!” and I was like, “I would love it if you got the fuck away from me!” After getting to know him, he’s a really cool guy. He’s a funny dude aside from being a gay zombie and creeping the fuck out of me. He has a good heart. Do you have more hip-hop or indie rock girls throwing their panties at you while you’re onstage? Travis: It’s hard to put a face on the Gym Class Heroes fan. But we do hip-hop tours and rock tours and it’s cool to see those crowds merge. This year on Warped, I got approached by a group of women in their mid-40s and they’re like, “We brought our daughters here to see Underoath, but we came here to see you guys!” It made my world. You sing a lot about psycho women. Does one stand out in particular? Travis: During the Warped Tour I got into a little—I don’t want to say “relationship”—but a “thing” and I started noticing that she was pretty neurotic. I said to our mutual friend, “Listen, I got to cut this thing off, she’s showing signs of being psychotic!” and he’s like “Dude, she looks like the type that will punch you in the chest.” But I didn’t want to believe that. Later on that night, I told her I didn’t think it was working out and that we should just cut our losses. And you know what? She punched me dead in the chest. Knocked the wind out of me! You can kill somebody if you do that hard enough. Travis: I think that was her aim. I’d be lying if I said that I haven’t made a few girls psycho in my time and I regret it. I apologize. I’ve learned my lesson. You were involved with the Snakes on a Plane soundtrack. Which would you rather deal with: Snakes on a plane or pre-menstrual women at a wedding dress sale? Both: Snakes on a plane! Travis: Actually, I’d rather deal with girls in a hotel room, to be honest with you. That’s my area of expertise. Related Groups:

Meg & Dia interview with AP.net
Excerpts below, full interview viewable here.
Meg's Answers: First off, give us a little background on the band and tell us what you do in the band? Meg and Dia has been a band now for two years. We are based out of Salt Lake city. We signed to Doghouse Records last October. There are currently four members, (soon to add a fifth). I'm 21, Dia's 18. Nick and Kenji are 22 and 21, respectively. I play guitar, sing back-up vocals, and am the main songwriter. You are out on Warped Tour right now with the Myspace tent. How did you guys go about getting that spot? On our myspace page there was a viris and Tom (the official myspace Tom) was going to shut down our page but he liked the music. That's how he came to find our band. I believe that it was between us and one other band for the myspace tent spot and luckily we got it. What have been some of your most memorable parts of the Warped tour? I enjoyed hanging out at the barbeques and parties every night and having conversations with other bands. It was awesome to get some feedback on their carreers and asking them questions I had about music as a whole. I loved having an all access pass and being able to watch whoever I wanted from back stage. It was amazing to see bands like Underoath, From First to Last, and Thursday so up close and personal. They had so much energy radiating off the stage. Can you name of some influences that you had while writting this album? Well, as odd as this sounds I don't get my influences from bands or artists. I get them from books. John Steinbeck and George Sands are some examples that helped to shape this album. What I try to express after reading their work shapes the melody, rhythm, and overall feel of every song. Does the band have a rule that always applies on the bus? We don't have a bus. We have our trusty van to see us through each tour. Dia is only allowed to do vocal warm-ups for no more than half an hour. No talking on the phone past 2 A.M. and the driver gets to pick the tunes. When did you all realize that you wanted to play music? When I was 16. I was a late bloomer ----------------------------------------------------------- Dia's Answers: Can you name of some influences that you had while writting this album? Some of the influences I had mostly came from books. I read a lot while in the studio, as well as on tour, or just about anywhere, and I pick up so many ideas and inspiration from my favorite books and authors. Lately, I've been reading a lot of Hemingway and Salinger. Does the band have a rule that always applies on the bus? Keep clean and eat your own food. When did you all realize that you wanted to play music? At a very early age actually. I never wanted to do anything else.......I think it was when I first heard some early Connie Francis and "The Supremes" material that I got really excited on the idea of singing for others and not just myself. You are always out on the road. The band has to have atleast one story that you guys always talk about. What is it? One story we always talk about? Uhm, we don't really have stories, but we have topics I guess we like to discuss a lot. We are not your average band that goes on the road talking about hooking up with chicks/guys, or how drunk we got the night before. We don't really indulge in the average tour life for the most part and don't really plan too. We discuss religion a lot, which turns out to be, as always a pretty open minded debate considering the fact that all four of us remain agnostic. We like to talk about different musicians, styles and history of music as well as lovely people we miss on the road every day. It's always fun to get out a laptop too and search for the worst reviews on us. It's entertaining on the long drives to the next city.......

August 25, 2006FOB Recording Update From Rolling Stone Magazine
Due Out: Early 2007
Recorded: Los Angeles Tom Petty and Babyface may not have much in common musically, but both are leaving their mark on Fall Out Boy's new disc. "We ended up finding a lof of other things in us that we didn't expect," says principal composer Patrick Stump. "There's some straight rock & roll, kind of a Tom Petty/Bruce Springsteen thing. I'm not saying that you're going to notice it, but I was surprised how much of that influence came out in the writing." The Chicago pop punkers have re-teamed with Neal Avron, who produced much of their breakthrough 2004 album, From Under The Cork Tree, and they will also record with R&B hitmaker Babyface, who is producing two tracks. Says bassist-lyricist Pete Wentz, "I don't think it's going to become like R. Kelly or anything. I think (Babyface) will explore Patrick's vocal range - (and) make that a little more soulful." The band has not lost its penchant for long-winded, arch song titles: "I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Getting You Off" is an uncharacteristically cheery love song Wentz wrote during a brief relationship last year: "I'm the kind of person who is atracted to turbulence, so girlfriends never really stick around, but at the time it was really genuine and heartfelt." And though Wentz and Stump promise as much ominous brooding as on previous FOB albums, they're intent on having fun too. "Life is very short, and you can't go around painting your face with zombie colors and being pissed the whole time," says Stump. Source ... what's with all these bands drawing great inspiration from bruce springsteen lately? Didn't the killers say that about THEIR new cd, too? I'm sure Brandon will have a hissy fit over that, ha.

August 21, 2006FHM interview w/ Gabe of Cobra Starship (By Shallon Lester)
I posted my fav questions. Link to the full article at the end.
--------------------------------- You’ve been with Midtown for a long time. How did you end up forming Cobra Starship? It’s really corny, but I went out on a spiritual retreat and when I came back, I wanted to have fun and stop being so serious about everything, so I started Cobra Starship. I formed this new band in honor of a cobra I found in the desert. That cobra bit me and I believe, in some ways, it came back from the future to find me. Decaydance is a fairly new label. How is Pete Wentz [of Fall Out Boy] doing as a bigwig in the music industry? He has a top hat and a cane he walks around with—a cane encrusted in jewels. I’m just kidding. If you’re a punk-rock kid and you grow up having to do shit for yourself, you’re basically running your own little label. We’ve all called clubs and pretended to be booking agencies to get a show. Even with the success that Fall Out Boy has had, Pete still has that same hardcore work ethic. Did you get to meet Samuel L. Jackson while shooting your video? Yes. We did the video shoot and everyone was having a good time. Someone snuck in a bottle of vodka and we got smashed in the cockpit of the plane and all of a sudden the director was like, “Samuel Jackson is coming! We got Samuel Jackson coming!” Everything got super tense and the director says, “No personal stuff for Mr. Jackson. Do not approach him. Stay in your starting positions. No one talk to him.” Basically, telling us not to look him in the eye because he only had a half an hour and we needed to shoot one scene. You could hear a pin drop. So, we shoot the scene and as soon as the director yells, “Cut!” I go right up to Samuel and I yell, “What’s up, man? Thanks for coming, you’re awesome!” And the whole fucking crew, their jaws just dropped. They were on the verge of freaking out. But he was totally cool. Now I think of him as my mentor. And what's your worst in-flight fiasco? This is really bad. When I was like 6 or 8, I was coming back from visiting my family in Uruguay. I was sitting by the wing and my mom said she saw a fire on the wing. Obviously, I started fucking crying and she didn’t say anything—she just let me sit there and cry. That’s really fucked up, isn’t it? I have this theory that she never really saw anything—she just said it to me to see how I would react because she was that fucked up. It’s stayed with me forever. Why Are So Many Bands Leaving The Warped Tour? (MTV article)
Good article, excerpt below, go HERE to read the full version!
-------------------- For most bands, landing a coveted slot on the Warped Tour is like finding a golden ticket. But this year, bands have been dropping off the annual summer tour's 11th installment like flies. From First to Last bolted just three weeks into the festival so frontman Sonny Moore could undergo surgery to remove a nodule on his vocal cords (see "From First To Last Singer Dispels More Rumors, Reveals Why Band Left Warped"). Then, Gatsby's American Dream dropped out. "There's no juicy gossip to report, we just need a break to be with our families at this time," the band said in a statement. Next, it was Christian-leaning rockers Underoath, who bailed late in July, saying they needed to resolve some internal issues. "We're deeply frustrated and sorry for any inconvenience this has caused," the band said in a statement. "We felt it necessary to take some immediate time to focus on our friendship, as that's more important than risking it for the sake of touring at this time." However, many have noted that the band was on the receiving end of a persistent string of gibes from NOFX frontman Fat Mike. Underoath did not grant MTV News' requests for an interview. ... Later that day, gypsy-punk act Gogol Bordello dropped off, citing drummer Eliot Ferguson's need to seek medical treatment for cellulitis in his arm. Those are all valid reasons for why Warped has had more bands drop out this year than in any other during its 11-year history. Yet members of some bands say there is definitely a higher level of tension on this year's trek. While some blame the summer's sweltering temperatures and the pressures of spending two long, grueling months on the road, others say there's an old-punks-vs.-new-punks battle that has resulted in tension between bands. Fat Mike, who has spent eight of the last 11 summers on Warped with both NOFX and cover band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, says the tension is due to all of the above. ... The no-longer-so-fat Mike also says he witnessed several of the younger bands on the tour copping what he called "rock star" attitudes because "they have a hit record that sells a few hundred thousand copies and they think everyone's there to see them. The older bands, we really don't care. We're just happy to still be around." Thursday's Geoff Rickly, who is about to finish his third Warped, says the friction largely amounts to a battle between the old school and new school. "The number of younger bands is much higher, and they seem to think they're the sh-- and all the older bands are has-beens or whatever," he explained. "I think there's an attitude of entitlement. Like, 'All these old bands don't even sell the amount of records we sell' and 'We should maybe be getting better slots' and 'We're the new sh--.' I kind of get that attitude from some of the younger bands, and that's too bad, I think. They don't even realize that when a band works hard for 10 years, there's a reason why they get respect. Just because you write a few pop songs and maybe get on the radio, you're not necessarily given the world." Read the full article HERE
